Faithful Responses to Violence against Women and Girls

The Guibord Center’s Role – An Overview

The Guibord Center turns to our faith traditions to approach the issues that challenge us, believing that when we align with the Holy within sacred texts and traditions, we are led to do those things that bring forth healing.

Violence Against Women and Girls

There is a great awakening throughout the world about the terrible cost that violence against women and girls is taking on the whole of society. The Carter Center, under the direction of former President Jimmy Carter, is one of the global leaders in this call. Many good people and institutions are rising up to stop the violence at many points throughout its multiple manifestations of destructiveness. We salute them and do not want to replicate their efforts.

The Rev. Dr. Gwynne Guibord and the Advisory Council believe that our role as people of faith is to address the terrible distortions of our religious texts and traditions that enable them to be used as a justification for the demeaning of women and girls and the resulting violence.

Our role is to uphold the sanctity of women and the Feminine as it is found at the heart of all faiths and spiritual teachings.

We invite people of faith everywhere to join us in confronting the frequent misreadings of these texts and restoring them to their appropriate context, which upholds the sanctity of men and women.
