Compassion is at the heart of spirituality.
It is rooted in our shared humanity and the recognition that we are all interconnected and part of something greater.
This connection calls us to care for one another. That concern is literally coded into the human brain. Acts of kindness build resilience and offer healing in the face of suffering.
Reclaiming compassion helps restore our shared humanity.

Compassion is being eclipsed by cruelty, greed, and indifference in public policy, in the media, and in everyday life. Too often, the messages around us promote fear and division instead of kindness and connection. As these values fade, despair grows.
We are not separate from the world but woven into it. What we do matters, not only for ourselves but for others whose lives intersect with ours. Every act of kindness or harm carries consequences beyond the moment.
To live spiritually is to recognize this interconnection and act with intention. Compassion and concern for others lie at the heart of a truly spiritual life.

Practice Spirituality in Community
Spirituality is the experience of being connected to something greater than ourselves, something purposeful and good. At The Guibord Center, this connection is explored and lived in community.
By bringing together people from many backgrounds, we create experiences of connection, learning, and solidarity with those most impacted by injustice.
Stay informed and be the first to hear about upcoming events rooted in compassion and connection.

We practice it in every interaction, from how we welcome guests to how we support our speakers.
Every event is deesigned to reflect compassion, inclusion, and respect in both our programming and our relationships.
Our events bring together people from many backgrounds to explore shared values, listen deeply, and learn from one another’s experiences.
Impact in Practice
The Take Heart Program

The Guibord Center began the practice several years ago of handing out beautiful, small carved hearts to those in attendance at its many large events as a physical reminder of the goodness of each person’s own heart.
Additional hearts were included with the instruction to give them away to those one encountered who needed to be reminded of their “good heart”.
These hearts have also been distributed to communities in times of pain or distress, as well as to individuals and groups worldwide.
