Dr. Daniel Walker, Presenter, African Spiritual Roots of Gospel MusicGospel music is a powerful art form through which generations of African Americans have expressed faith and hope in the face of oppression. Join noted historian Dr. Daniel Walker as he traces gospel’s history back to its roots in Africa. A gospel choir will assist him in transporting us on a compelling musical journey.

Dr. Walker is a globally recognized scholar, artist and speaker. He is founding director of the Gospel Music History Archive at the University of Southern California Digital Library. Dr. Walker co-curated the 2018 California African American Museum exhibit How Sweet the Sound: Gospel Music in Los Angeles. He holds a PhD with distinction in Latin American and African American history from the University of Houston. Learn more at www.drdanielwalker.com.
