Carl Murrell is a thoughtful and engaging speaker whose work centers on human dignity, unity, and the role of faith communities in advancing the common good. As the Representative to the United Nations for the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of the United States, Carl participates in global conversations on the advancement of women, race unity, human rights, sustainable development, interfaith collaboration, and civil society engagement.
Carl currently serves as Interim President of the Committee of Religious NGOs at the United Nations and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Council of Organizations of the United Nations Association of the United States of America. He has also served as Co-Chair of the Values Caucus at the United Nations. Carl began his work with the U.S. Bahá’í Office of Public Affairs in 1991 and became Principal UN Representative in 2008. Before his work in public affairs, he worked in computer software development and securities investments, with undergraduate studies in psychology and philosophy.
