Webinar: When Worldviews Collide @ Online via Zoom Webinar
Mar 31 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

In this webinar, we’ll examine a historical incident between the Hopi people and Spanish Catholic missionaries in the 1600s with repercussions that still affect our society today.

Background for our conversation

Bishop Steven Charleston is a Choctaw elder, retired professor of theology and Episcopal bishop.  The Guibord Center invited Bishop Charleston to speak at an event called “Honor Earth: Stewardship of the Earth.”  He centered his talk on the concept of kinship and outlined four sacred directions of kinship that Native Americans and Christians share.

To illustrate a Native American understanding of kinship, Bishop Charleston describes the Hopis’ belief about their primary purpose for being on the earth and the devastating consequences that occurred when the missionaries prevented them from carrying out their sacred rituals.
