“When East and West Meet” Buddha’s Light Youth Symphony Orchestra
April 1 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm| Free
Buddha’s Light Youth Symphony Orchestra
The Buddha’s Light Youth Symphony Orchestra is a unique musical group that combines the beauty of Buddhist music with classical Western music. It was formed in 1993 with the ideal of spreading the joy of the dharma sound.
The Chinese traditionally believe that sound influences the harmony in the universe. The ancient Chinese belief is that music is meant not to amuse but to purify one’s thoughts. The pure and clear sounding melodies of Buddhist Music aim to provide a way to communicate the higher spiritual states of mind that are advocated by the Dharma, and can serve to enrich and re-energize the heart.
Hsi Lai Temple was built to serve as a spiritual and cultural center. The Temple is committed to serving as a bridge between East and West, so that the Buddha’s teachings of kindness, compassion, joyfulness, and equanimity might be integrated into our lives-and we might learn to clearly understand the true nature of all things.
