Now you have to understand that on that trip Suzanne and I photographed the very same places using the exact same model of camera and while my pictures came out okay - hers were amazing.
“Would you like to use some of my photographs from 9/11 for “Finding Hope in the Holy”?.. she asks…. “that’s what they convey – “hope in the Love from all over the world.”
“Yes, thank you. Oh my goodness, of course! But tell me about these photos.”
“A year after the towers fell, I had to get on a plane and go to see for myself what had been done to my beloved country. I started taking pictures and then I had to stop. I had to say a prayer in Hebrew to myself for all the fallen heroes…
“This little church, it was in the middle of everything… a refuge. I tried to get a picture of it all – the love, the heart-break, the exhaustion….” Clearly this woman of deep faith was still reeling with emotions.
We set up time of Friday to look at her many, many powerful photos and then agreed to share just a handful… a handful that reflect an out-pouring of love from around the world, and right here in the heart of the pueblo of Los Angeles, that reflect the unity of Church and Temple in New York City pulling together amid all the brokenness,.. a handful of photographs to honor and remember, to inspire and affirm.
